Degree objectives
It is intended that the professional trained by ESTBarreiro/IPS is flexible, with a global vision of Civil Engineering and well qualified to perform activities at different levels: Execution - knowing how to solve problems in a professional way through the application of the knowledge and the ability to understand acquired; Coordination - ability to substantiate the solutions they advocate and the judgments they issue by collecting, selecting and interpreting relevant information in an integrated manner through the inclusion of social, scientific and ethical aspects relevant to the analysis;
Self-learning and development - have learning methodologies and philosophies that allow them to acquire knowledge throughout life, in a fundamentally self-oriented or autonomous way, with the aim of keeping up to date and having an increasingly broad vision of the different fields of civil engineering; Design and innovation - being able to apply knowledge and their ability to understand problems in new and unfamiliar situations, complex, in broad contexts, with limited or incomplete information and multidisciplinary, and ability to change the principles, methods and techniques of execution subject to technological, economic, social and environmental constraints.
The cycle of studies leading to the Master's degree ensures, in parallel with the complement to the training provided in the Bachelor's Degree, the specialization in the areas of execution and construction of projects, in compliance with the provisions of Decree-Law 74/2006 that defines the competences of the master, article 15, as well as the public positions assumed by the Order of Engineers. -

Learning objectives and skills to be developed
The Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, a course of ESTBarreiro/IPS in partnership with the Higher Institute of Engineering of the University of Algarve, is oriented towards a specialization of a professional nature, allowing the exercise of the profession in the area of Civil Engineering, in accordance with the public position assumed by the Order of Engineers.
The course follows the established model with a long tradition abroad, namely in the United Kingdom and Italy. The Master's Degree in Civil Engineering allows you to develop fundamental skills for professional evolution at different levels: • Execution - solving problems in a professional way through the full understanding and correct application of the knowledge acquired;
• Coordination - substantiate the recommended solutions and opinions issued by collecting, selecting and interpreting relevant information in an integrated way through the inclusion of the social, scientific and ethical aspects inherent to each challenge; • Self-learning and development - use learning methodologies and philosophies that allow an autonomous acquisition of knowledge throughout life, ensuring constant updating and a broad view of the different fields of civil engineering;
• Design and innovation - apply knowledge in solving problems in new and unfamiliar situations, complex, in comprehensive, limited or incomplete and multidisciplinary contexts, and innovate in adapting the principles, methods and techniques of implementation according to technological, economic, social and environmental constraints. -
Career opportunities
The professional profile of the Master graduated from ESTBarreiro/IPS is oriented towards the following specific activities of intervention of Civil Engineers: - manage, direct and supervise works; - Technical advice in civil construction companies; - intervene, at the level of municipal structures, in the instruction of processes, monitoring, analysis and inspection of works and projects; - lead or integrate into multidisciplinary teams; - ability to create and manage construction companies; - Develop projects of current structures of Civil Engineering.

Admission requirements
The following may apply to the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering:
Holders of a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent;
Holders of an equivalent foreign higher academic degree conferred following a 1st
cycle of studies, organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a State
adhering to this Process;
Holders of an equivalent foreign higher academic degree that is recognized as
meeting the objectives of the bachelor's degree by the Scientific Technical Council of ESTBarreiro/IPS;
Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum, which is recognized as attesting
