  • Course objectives

    The Degree in Basic Education has a duration of six curricular semesters (three years) and 180 credits. In accordance with current legislation, the curricular units that make up the study plan are organised around four training components: (a) Training in the teaching area (FAD); (b) General Educational Training (FEG); (c) Specific Didactics (DE); (d) Initiation to Professional Practice (IPP). This plan includes optional curricular units, which allows for flexible training paths.

  • Learning objectives and skills to be developed

    The objectives of the course have been established so that students develop: - a global and integrated perspective of Basic Education; - the understanding needed to lay the foundations for effective and quality professional performance; - a thorough understanding of the knowledge that makes up the areas of the basic education curriculum and the pre-school curriculum guidelines; - skills that contribute to reflective, investigative and critical personal and professional development; - knowledge and understanding of educational institutions and classroom organisation and management through observation, collaboration and intervention in the activities carried out there; - an understanding of the roles to be played by the Basic Education Educator/Teacher.

  • Career opportunities

    This higher education course provides access to one of the following Master's courses in teaching qualification: Pre-School Education, Pre-School Education and Teaching of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education and Teaching of the 1st and 2nd Cycle of Basic Education.

  • Recognition of prior learning

    Recognition of prior learning is carried out in accordance with the Academic Regulations of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal.

  • Admission and entry requirements

    Entrance exams Two of the following: 16 Maths 18 Portuguese or 17 Social Sciences 18 Portuguese or 19 Maths A 18 Portuguese Minimum marks Application grade: 100 points Entrance exams: 95 points Calculation formula Secondary school average: 50% Entrance exams: 50% Other forms of access: - Re-entry and Change of Institution/Course Pair schemes; - Special Access Competition for Graduates of Vocational Pathways; - Special Access Competition for CTeSP holders; - Special Access Competition for Exam holders over the age of 23; - Special Access Competition for Holders of Other Higher Education Courses; - Special Competition for International Students.
